A Year Later: Clean Water for Drinking & Hygiene!

Grivin, 14, recalled what life was like in the Muchini Community before his community's spring was protected last year.

"This area is swampy, so accessing the water point was hard because the place was too slippery. Secondly, the water was open to all kinds of contaminations; we even feared [to] drink it," said Grivin.

Collecting water is now much easier for Grivin and the other community members in Muchini.

"We are very glad the spring is well constructed and covered to prevent dust [from] entering the water. The environment around the spring is not [as] slippery as before. We are trying to [keep] the drainage in good condition to avoid [the] breeding of mosquitoes," said Grivin.

“Through this water point [I] have managed to maintain my personal hygiene by bathing daily and cleaning my clothes when necessary. Also, we are now taking clean water [and] treating it with chlorine that was installed [at] our water point," said Grivin.

Having ready access to water from the spring has made a difference for Grivin, allowing him to improve his personal hygiene and drink water that will not make him sick so he has time and energy to dream about a brighter future.
