A Year Later: Clean Water Helps Improve Health!

Thirty-eight-year-old farmer Catherine Wawire recalled what life was like in the Lishindu Community before her community’s spring was protected last year.

“The unprotected spring was mostly muddy since it was open to everyone, including animals. Since it was bushy, dangerous creatures such as snakes could harm us whenever we went to fetch water. Additionally, diseases such as typhoid affected us so much,” said Catherine.

Collecting water is now simpler to collect and less risky to consume for Catherine.

“Sickness, especially typhoid has reduced largely. There is enough clean water for drinking and also the water is near and easy to fetch directly from the pipe,” Catherine continued.

Having ready access to water from the spring has made a difference for Catherine, allowing her to improve her health and have plenty of water to meet her daily needs.

"There is [a] constant supply of water throughout the year. My health has been good since I no longer consume contaminated water," said Catherine.

"I am able to practice animal farming since my cows get enough clean water," concluded Catherine.
