A Year Later: Easier Water Access for Everyone!

Chairperson of the water committee and businessman Hesborn Musambai, 58, recalled what life was like in the Lutonyi Community before his community's spring was protected last year.

"Since our parents, the water source has been serving many people, and for sure, you can tell by the number of people fetching water. We had no structure that could protect the source. You could see debris on water surfaces, which was not safe for us. Several people could not fetch at a time, and this contributed to time-wasting and overcrowding of people," said Hesborn.

But life is much simpler for Hesborn and the other community members in Lutonyi Community now.

"We have [a] good access point. Several people can collect at a time, and not much time is wasted by people queuing for water. The structure is in good condition, which enhances good hygiene. No more debris can be seen on top of the water. The hygiene standards have [been] greatly improved by many people through this water point," said Hesborn.

Having ready access to water from the spring has made a difference for Hesborn, allowing him to provide for his family and for them to experience better health.

"I can collect several containers of water which I can sell to people and get my daily bread, and also my personal cleaning can be done on a daily basis—no more health issues. My family enjoys using water, which [has] no complications," concluded Hesborn.
