A Year Later: Water access improves business!

Aminata Conteh, 48, trader, recalled what life was like in the Menika Community before her community’s well was rehabilitated last year.

"Before this project was completed. The water situation was difficult. We were fetch[ing] water from the swamp at a walking distance [of] about 400 meters (.25 miles) away from our homes. I'm a cookery seller, and I need enough water to wash every food item I use to prepare food. Even to wash the pots, plates, and spoons [I need] water. My customer[s] need water to drink after eating. I have six kids, and we need water to take our baths," Aminata shared.

But life is less stressful for Aminata and the other community members in Menika Community now.

"This water point has impacted my cookery selling on time. We have enough water now to cook, launder [clothes], and take [a] bath three times a day. We [are] no longer walking far distance to fetch water," she continued.

Having ready access to water from the rehabilitated well has made a difference for Aminata, allowing her to improve her business and practice better hygiene.

"This water point has helped me to achieve preparing the cookery on time and make enough sales. Customers have enough water to drink after eating. My kids can now go to school on time and have enough time to rest," Aminata concluded.

Thank you for helping Aminata access clean water, helping grow her business, and giving her children a childhood unencumbered by the stress of trekking long distances to fetch water.

Right now, there are others just like her in neighboring communities that desperately need safe water access. Your support will immediately go to work to provide a clean water project - and we can’t wait to introduce you to the next person you’ll help.
