A Year Later: No Longer Suffering from Waterborne Illnesses!

Mabinty Kamara, 42, recalled what life was like in the Petifu Junction Community before her community's well was rehabilitated last year.

"I am a teacher. I want to say many thanks to you. At first, it was so difficult for us, especially [for the] women and children. In the morning, we had to go to the swamps to fetch water, and by the time we got home, we were already late for school. Before the rehabilitation of this well, we used to drink water from the swamps, which was affecting our lives and children by getting diarrhea, typhoid, and dysentery," shared Mabinty.

Collecting water is now much easier for Mabinty and the other community members in the Petifu Junction Community.

"We're very grateful to the almighty God for the availability of safe drinking water in this community. We used to have many waterborne illnesses, but since this well was rehabilitated, we are [drinking] safe and pure water now," continued Mabinty.

Having ready access to water from the well has made a difference for Mabinty, allowing her relief from not only the illnesses that afflicted them from drinking unsafe water but also from the constant worry about her students falling ill as well.

"Because of the availability of this well, it has helped impact our lives and children," concluded Mabinty.
