A Year Later: Safe from Water-Related Sickness!

Kadiatu, 14, recalled what life was like in the Maribo Community before her community's well was installed last year.

"We, the children, were suffering greatly to fetch clean water. Sometimes, on the way to the source, we would come across difficulties, like seeing [a] snake on the road [or] hitting our toes. The road is very far from this village. We sometimes [were] late to go to school. The water we were using was unsafe and not clean. That is why sickness was plenty around these surrounding villages, and we were using that unclean water to drink and launder our uniforms," said Kadiatu.

Collecting water is now much simpler for Kadiatu and the other community members in Maribo.

"Now, I'm very happy for having this safe drinking water in my village. I will go to school on time now, and I can use this safe drinking water to drink and launder my uniform and clothes. Our lives are now safe from sickness, snake bite, and [I am] not going to school late," continued Kadiatu.

Having ready access to water from the well has made a difference for Kadiatu, allowing her time to fulfill her daily responsibilities and to drink water without becoming ill.

"This safe drinking water well has changed my life from diseases like diarrhea and cholera. I want to thank you for providing this safe drinking water in my community," concluded Kadiatu.
