A Year Later: "We are living in a good life..."

Nbalu B., 10, recalled what life was like in Menika before her community's well was installed last year.

"In the past, the road to the sea was very far, which we covered to fetch water. We walked to the sea to launder our clothes, and sometimes, we would see a snake or other animal along the road. We sometimes [were] late to school on time because of water," said Nbalu.

But life is much less burdensome for Nbalu and the other community members in Menika now.

"We now go to school on time, and we now [have] this clean water to drink and to launder our clothes after school. We are living in a good life, so we say thank you for saving our lives," Nbalu said.

Having ready access to water from the well has made a difference for Nbalu, allowing her to attend school on time to build a brighter future and efficiently complete her other daily chores.

"Our lives are safe now [by] providing us this clean water point, and we say thanks for making us not to [go] late to go to school anymore," Nbalu concluded.
