Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for Alex. Since then, he and the Kamuuwani Community of 800 residents have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!
"I am now drinking clean water that does not expose me to water-related infections like typhoid. I get sick less often, which makes me happy."
Like many children in Kenya, 14-year-old Alex is responsible for collecting water to meet his daily water needs. Before last year's water intervention, this task stole his time and negatively affected him.

Drinking the water caused severe consequences. Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Alex, in particular, it lessened his opportunity to stay healthy and attend school regularly.
"Last year, it was so hard to get water. We had to walk very far to the river, and even then, the water was dirty. I used to get sick a lot from drinking it, and it made me miss school sometimes. It was really tiring, and my mom was always worried we wouldn't have enough water at home," shared Alex.
"It was exhausting! We had to wake up very early, and the walk to the scoop hole felt endless. When we got there, we had to wait in long lines, and sometimes, people would argue because everyone wanted water before it ran out. Carrying the heavy jerrycans back home was the hardest part, especially when I was already tired from the walk."
Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this community and Alex's future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.

Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"
"The best thing is how easy and safe it is now. The water is so close and clean, so we don't have to worry about getting sick. I feel happy knowing my family and I are drinking safe water every day. It's also great that we don't have to spend so much time fetching it anymore," said Alex.
A year ago, you made a difference for Alex and the rest of his community. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!
At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.
You gave Alex a crucial tool for achieving his dreams: access to clean water. Together, we can excitedly expect that with this precious resource, his enthusiasm and courage will help fulfill dreams.
"I've been doing much better in school! Before, I used to be too tired to focus or finish my homework because fetching water took so much time. Now, I get time to revise my work, discuss school work with my friends, and [I] even complete my work because I no longer spend most of [my] time fetching water from scoop holes," Alex said.
"I want to be a court judge when I grow up! I want to help people and make sure everyone is treated fairly. Having clean water makes it easier to focus on school and work towards my dream. I know that if I keep studying hard, I can achieve it."
