Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for Allan. Since then, he and the residents of the Muthini Upendo Community have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!
"I like that the water point is close to our home and provides clean water. It is much easier and faster to access water now than before. I no longer have to spend my evenings or weekends walking long distances, which gives me more time for schoolwork and other activities," he said.
Before the Sand Dam Installation
Like many young people in Southeastern Kenya, 16-year-old Allan is responsible for collecting water to meet his daily water needs. Before last year’s water intervention, this task stole his time and negatively affected him.

The previous water source.
Drinking water from the previous water source caused severe consequences. Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy. For Alllan, it meant his opportunity to pursue his goals and enjoy his childhood was limited.
"Getting water before the project was an arduous task. The water sources were far from our home, and the journey was tiring, especially under the hot sun. Sometimes we spent several hours fetching water, and the water was not always clean or sufficient. It was frustrating because so much time was spent looking for water when we could have been doing other important things," Allan shared.
Since the Sand Dam Installation
Your generous gift last year was more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement of your commitment to this community and to Allan’s future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.

Reliable, clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic opportunities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"
"Since the project was implemented, I feel more confident about the quality of the water we use. Access to clean water reduces the risk of water-related diseases such as typhoid and other infections. Being healthier means I can attend school more regularly and participate fully in my studies and daily activities," Allan shared.
Less time searching for water means more time for school. The more effort he puts into his studies, the brighter his future can be.

"Since the water point was installed, I have been able to focus more on my education. I now have more time to study because I spend less time fetching water. I am less tired and can dedicate more attention to my schoolwork, which is helping me work toward my academic goals," he continued.
The Future is Looking Bright!
A year ago, you made a difference for Allan and his community. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!
At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect system hardware, monitor water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water-quality samples to identify risks. We work with our on-the-ground team to resolve them.

You gave Allan a crucial tool for achieving his dreams: access to clean water. Together, we can be confident that, with this precious resource, his enthusiasm and courage will help Allan fulfill his dreams.
"My dream is to become a doctor in the future. I want to work hard in school so that I can pursue higher education and help people in my community live healthier lives. Access to clean water is helping me move closer to this dream because it gives me more time to study, keeps me healthier, and allows my parents to spend more time on farming activities that can improve our household income and support my education," Allan concluded.
