Anatoli Plans to Raise Cattle!

"It only takes one minute [to collect] now that the water point is near my home, making access much faster compared to when I had to travel over 1 km before the project began." - Anatoli.

Before the Well's Installation

Like many in Uganda, 30-year-old Anatoli Mugabe, a farmer, is responsible for collecting water to meet his daily water needs. Before last year's water intervention, this task stole his time and negatively affected him.

Drinking the water caused severe consequences. Many in his community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Anatoli, in particular, he spent so much time collecting water that he didn't have time to work his farm, negatively affecting his income and livelihood.

"I used to walk long distances, about 1.2 kilometers (almost a mile), to fetch safe drinking water. My primary water source was an open well, but the water there was not safe for consumption. Therefore, I had to travel a considerable distance to obtain water that was suitable for drinking and cooking," shared Anatoli.

"This water has been valuable for my garden, especially during the dry season, for watering my plants and for construction purposes," he added.
