Clean Water Inspires Hope for a Better Future!

"It feels wonderful to have the water point located in a safe place near my home. I no longer have to travel long distances to fetch water. Accessing water has become much easier, faster, and more convenient," said Stephen.

Before the Well Installation

Like many children in Uganda, 10-year-old Stephen is responsible for collecting water to meet daily water needs. Before last year’s water intervention, this task stole his time and negatively affected him.

Drinking the water caused severe consequences. Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Stephen, it lessened his opportunity to focus on his education or anything else.

"I used to walk long distances to fetch clean water, which took up a lot of my time and energy. The journey was exhausting and left me with little opportunity to focus on my education. I also had less time to rest and take care of myself," Stephen said.

"Clean water is safe for drinking because it is free from contamination. It also brings pride to the community and inspires hope for a better future," Stephen shared. "It’s great because I can now spend most of my time revising, and I no longer worry about fetching water since the water point is nearby."

We inspect system hardware, monitor water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water-quality samples to identify risks. We work with our on-the-ground team to resolve them.

"I can now engage in sports and complete my domestic chores more easily. I am able to attend school regularly without interruptions. I also have more time to relax and socialize with my friends," Stephen said. With some free time now at hand, he has plans! "[I want] to come up with a small vegetable garden at home, and start up a piggery project."
