Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for Mercy Sitati. Since then, she and the 300 patients and staff at Emuhaya Subcounty Hospital have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!
"Fetching water here is perfectly good. I am at peace knowing that we have [a] reliable water source within [our hospital]."
Like many healthcare staff in Kenya, 35-year-old Mercy Sitati felt the heavy responsibility of providing water. Before last year's water intervention, this task consumed her time and energy.
Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Mercy, in particular, it lessened her opportunity to provide proper health care and to stay healthy herself.
"Last year, before this project was built, we had regular water shortages due to huge electricity bills while pumping municipal water into the facility, and during [the] dry season, roof catchment sources [went] dry. Since there was no reliable water source within the facility, it was so hard to get safe water for drinking because the available water points were compromised and could pose [a] risk of contamination," shared Mercy.

Your generous gift last year was more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this community, the healthcare center, and Mercy. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.
Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"
"The best thing [about] living with clean water is that it relieves me of [the] stress of going about fetching water. Every day I report to work, I carry my container to fetch safe water for my family," shared Mercy.

A year ago, you made a difference for Mercy and the rest of her community. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!
At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.
You gave Mercy a crucial tool for achieving her dreams: access to clean water. Together, we can excitedly expect that with this precious resource, her enthusiasm and courage will help Mercy fulfill her dreams.
"Fetching water here takes less than a minute to fill [a] 20-liter container. Also, a person can fill many containers within [a] short time. Overall, it is much faster to fetch water here than before this project was built last year," Mercy said.
"With this water point, [I] am proud to be a member of this hospital, knowing that all our water problems have been solved," Mercy exclaimed.
