Faith Enjoys Learning Again!

Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for Faith. Since then, she and the 757 students and teachers of Khabondi Primary School have had access to clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!

"What I like most about fetching water here is that it's easy, safe, and doesn't take much time," exclaimed Faith.

Before the Well Installation

Like many school children in Kenya, 14-year-old Faith is responsible for collecting water to meet her daily water needs. Before last year’s water intervention, this task consumed her time and had a negative impact on her.

Students had to walk long distances to collect water previously.

Drinking the water caused severe consequences. Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Faith, in particular, it lessened her opportunity to maintain her energy and health to learn.

"Before this project was completed, getting water was really hard. We had to carry water from home in the morning, which was tiring, carrying water with books to school," said Faith.

"Going to school without water was like trying to learn while carrying a heavy burden every day. The toilets were dirty, and the smell made it hard to breathe. Many of us avoided using them. We would go the whole day without drinking anything just to avoid needing the bathroom. There was no place to wash our hands, even after using the toilet or eating, so sickness spread easily. Stomachaches and infections became normal to us," recalled Faith.

She continued, "Sometimes, we were sent out during class time to fetch water from a far spring. It was heavy and tiring. We'd return sweaty, dusty, and late for the next lesson. It felt like our learning didn't matter. There were days when food couldn't be cooked because there was no water at school. Lunchtime became another struggle."

Since the Well Installation

Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this community and Faith’s future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.

Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"

"I don't have to walk far or carry heavy containers for a long distance like before. The water is clean, and I know it won't make me sick. I can get a drink, wash my hands, or help clean up without stress. It has made me feel more comfortable to be in school," said Faith.

"Since this waterpoint was implemented in our school, my health has really improved," Faith celebrated.

The Future is Looking Bright!

A year ago, you made a difference for Faith and the rest of her school community. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!

At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.

You gave Faith a crucial tool for achieving her dreams: access to clean water. Together, we can excitedly expect that with this precious resource, her enthusiasm and courage will help Faith fulfill her dreams.

"Since the waterpoint was installed, I have been doing much better in school. Before, I used to miss a lot of classes because I was sick or too tired from fetching water. Now, I'm in class every day, and I concentrate better because I feel healthy and clean. My grades have improved, and I actually enjoy learning more now. Clean water has helped me become the student I always wanted to be," declared Faith.

"I have time to play during breaks, which makes me happy. At home, I can help my family with chores or just rest without feeling so tired. Life feels more balanced, and I feel like I can enjoy being a student again," Faith celebrated.

"My dream for the future is to become a doctor. I want to help people who are sick, especially children who suffer from diseases that can be prevented with clean water and good hygiene. Having clean water has given me a chance to chase my dreams, to learn, grow, and one day make a difference in other people's lives," she exclaimed.
