Farming is Easier for David!

Your gift last year unlocked the potential for a brighter future for David. Since then, he and the 250 residents of Kasioni Community have had reliable access to water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!

"Since the project has brought water closer to the community, it has reduced the distance and physical effort required to fetch water, making it more convenient and less tiring." - David.

Before the Sand Dam Installation

David Mwendaka, a 56-year-old farmer, collects water to meet his daily needs, providing a livelihood for his family. Before last year’s water intervention, this task stole his time and negatively affected him.

Limited accessibility meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For David, in particular, it lessened his opportunity to farm efficiently.

"Fetching water was time-consuming. We had to wait for our turn at the river, leading to long waiting periods. The process was further complicated by the need to coordinate with others and by the slow pace of donkeys used to transport the water. Carrying water over long distances placed a significant physical strain on each of us, especially women and children, who were often tasked with this duty. The time spent collecting water meant less time for other important activities like farming, studying, or more," shared David.

Since the Sand Dam Installation

Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this community and David’s future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.

Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"

"It only takes me less than half an hour to fetch water and go back home, unlike before when I would spend the entire day fetching water," said David.

"Since the project has brought water closer to the community, it has reduced the distance and physical effort required to fetch water, making it more convenient and less tiring."

The Future is Looking Bright!

A year ago, you made a difference for David and the rest of his community. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!

At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.

You gave David a crucial tool for achieving his dreams: access to reliable water. Together, we can excitedly expect that with this precious resource, his enthusiasm and courage will help him fulfill his dreams.

"We are able to cultivate kitchen gardens which provide us with vegetables to supplement our daily diet. Getting enough water for drinking and cooking was difficult in the past, let alone irrigation. We are hoping to have more tree seedlings in our nursery that we will be selling to other community members because we now have enough water from the implemented project," said David.
