Your gift unlocked Consolata's potential for a brighter future last year. Since then, she and the Gambaragai ADC Primary School, which has 244 students, have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!
"Living with clean water means that I can access the water anytime I want and drink as much water as I need, to my satisfaction, knowing that it will not affect my life."
Like many students in Kenya, 13-year-old Consolata is responsible for collecting water to meet her daily water needs. Before last year’s water intervention, this task stole her time and negatively affected her.

Drinking the water caused severe consequences. Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Consolata, in particular, it lessened her opportunity to stay well and attend school regularly.
"Last year, before this project was built, I used to fetch dirty water from a very contaminated stream as our only source. Every time I consumed water from this source, my nose and mouth would develop swelling, indicating high contaminants in the water," shared Consolata.
Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this community and Consolata’s future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.
Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"
"Fetching water here has been simplified, and [I] am very happy pumping water smoothly without using much power, because the pump is easier to push and pull, up and down while water is flowing. I have no fear of conflict between me and any member of the community because water is ours," shared Consolata.
"I do not worry anymore while fetching water from this source, but rather I feel safe and secure knowing that all issues relating to contamination, and accessing the water have all been dealt with during the process of implementation, by making a drainage channel to remove all the excess water from the borehole and also during [the] rainy season."
A year ago, you made a difference for Consolata and the rest of her community. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!
At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.

You gave Consolata a crucial tool for achieving her dreams: access to clean water. Together, we can excitedly expect that with this precious resource, her enthusiasm and courage will help fulfill her dreams.
"Now that we take shorter times to fetch water, I use the time saved to study very hard and do my assignments on time to avoid punishment from teachers, and utilize it to improve my grades and marks and be a better person in [the] future. Since this waterpoint was installed, I have been able to improve my marks in three key subjects, from previous 40 marks to now 70 marks, thanks to [the] availability of clean, safe water from a closer source to us here at school," shared Consolata.
"My dream for the future is to be a lawyer, to defend the vulnerable members of my community, like orphans and widows, from denial of their rights and exploitation."
