"We used to fetch water at Kikuo River, which is very far from my home. I used to go and dig scoop holes to fetch water. The water was contaminated because the donkeys and livestock would drink from the same holes. There were donkey excretions and urine around the source, which posed great health hazards to the community members," said Mambo W, a 13-year-old boy we met at the well.
"It's easier to fetch water from this water point because it takes less time to pump water. I can be sent here with a jerrycan and get back home in less than five minutes because it's not far from home, and the pump is easy to use. Water from this source ascertains adequate time for studying and completing school assignments on time because not much time is wasted in pursuit of water."
"I am happy to use the water for household activities and duties allocated to me such as washing my school uniform and washing the utensils at home. I intend to input more time for studying after school and playing too because the duties at home are manageable thanks to the implemented water project."
