Ibrahim Gains Time to Learn!

"The water source is very close, and the water is clean, so I no longer need to spend a lot of time searching for water," said Ibrahim.

Before the Well Installation

Eighteen-year-old Ibrahim is responsible for collecting water to meet his daily needs. Before last year's water intervention, this task stole his time and negatively affected him.

Drinking the water caused severe consequences. Many in his community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Ibrahim, in particular, it lessened his opportunity to gain a good education.

"I used to travel approximately 1 kilometer to the spring well to fetch water, often needing a bicycle. When short on time, I would resort to an open well despite its unclean water. Occasionally, I would return from the well late at night due to the distance. It was challenging due to the lengthy distance, and the water from the open well would occasionally change color and even dry up during the dry season," shared Ibrahim.

Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"

When we asked Ibrahim what the best thing about living with clean water is, he shared that it allows him to live a healthy life. "My health has improved because I no longer suffer skin rashes," said Ibrahim.

"My performance has improved because I no longer have to travel long distances to fetch water. Sometimes, when I return from school, my mother has already collected water, allowing me to focus on other activities. I dedicate the time I used to spend focusing on my studies to ensure that I perform well and achieve good results in school," concluded Ibrahim.
