Isatu's Job is Easier, and Dreams are Possible!

Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for Isatu Mednatu Conteh. Since then, she and the 13 staff members who serve 40 patients a day at the Pepel Heath Center have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!

"The lives of our patients have become easier since the completion of this project. They have access to enough water when they want to use the restroom," Ms. Conteh said.

Before the Solar Pump Installation

Like many healthcare workers in Sierra Leone, 30-year-old Isatu Mednatu was responsible for collecting water to meet the center's daily needs. Before last year’s water intervention, this task stole time from her and negatively affected her ability to care for patients.

Carrying water back to the health care facility before the project was completed.

Drinking water from the previous water source caused severe consequences. Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy. For Isatu, it meant her opportunity to provide the excellent medical care her patients deserved was quite difficult.

"I was having water shortages in the previous years when there was no water point in the community. There was no water for drinking and other activities that have to do with water," she said.

Since the Solar Pump Installation

Your generous gift last year was more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement of your commitment to this community, its healthcare facility, and to Isatu’s future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.

Reliable, clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic opportunities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"

"Since the completion of this source, I have been [able] to get safe water for drinking, and the water source has also made things easy for me at the health center, especially when there is a labor case. Another benefit is that there are total hygiene practices within the health facility," she said.

From struggling every single day to have adequate water, the health center hasn't gone a day without water since the project was completed. "We have been able to take care of our patients without any issues related to water. They have to water when the need arises," Isatu celebrated.

The Future is Looking Bright!

A year ago, you made a difference for Isatu, the other staff at the Pepel Health Center, and their patients. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!

At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect system hardware, monitor water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water-quality samples to identify risks. We work with our on-the-ground team to resolve them.

You gave Isatu a crucial tool for achieving her dreams: access to clean water. Together, we can be confident that, with this precious resource, her enthusiasm and courage will help Isatu fulfill her dreams.

"Staff’s lives have become easier since the implementation of this project. They can now access water within the health center premises. The water source has also made them have more time with their patients rather than going out of the center to search for water."

As a nurse, Isatu serves her community every day. That has led to a passion to go back to school, a dream now possible with clean, reliable water.

She dreams, "In the future, I am planning to further my studies and become a medical doctor."
