Peter Feels Stronger and More Energetic!

Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for Peter. Since then, he and the Ithunzi Primary School of 272 students have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!

"The best thing about living with clean water is that I don’t have to worry about getting sick anymore. I can drink whenever I’m thirsty without being scared of germs."

Before the Rain Tank Installation

Like many children in Kenya, 12-year-old Peter is responsible for collecting water to meet daily water needs. Before last year’s water intervention, this task stole his time and negatively affected him.

Drinking the water caused severe consequences. Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Peter, in particular, it lessened his opportunity to stay healthy and attend school regularly.

"Last year, before this project was implemented, we had a lot of problems with water. We often had to go to scoop holes that were really dirty and not safe to drink from," said Peter.

"Sometimes, we would walk for a long time to the Kiambere Dam, which was very dangerous because of crocodiles. It was tiring to carry heavy jerry cans of water back to school, and many times, we did not even have enough water for everyone. This made it hard for us to focus in class because we were always worried about getting sick. Sometimes, we would get sick from drinking that bad water, and that made going to school difficult," Peter continued.

Since the Rain Tank Installation

Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this community and Peter’s future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.

Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"

"Since the rainwater tank was built, my health has improved a lot. Before, I used to get sick often from drinking dirty water, but now I rarely get sick. We have clean water to drink, which helps me feel stronger and more energetic. I also notice that my friends are getting sick less often, too. We can attend school regularly without missing classes due to illnesses. Overall, having clean water has made a big difference in how I feel every day!" declared Peter.

The Future is Looking Bright!

A year ago, you made a difference for Peter and the rest of his community. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!

At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.

You gave Peter a crucial tool for achieving his dreams: access to clean water. Together, we can excitedly expect that with this precious resource, his enthusiasm and courage will help fulfill dreams.

"Since the waterpoint was installed, my academic performance has really improved. With clean water available, I don’t get as tired from walking long distances to fetch water anymore. I can focus better in class and pay attention to my teachers. I’ve been more active in school activities, and that makes learning more fun. Since we’re healthier now and don’t miss school as often due to sickness, I feel like I’m doing better in my studies overall. I’m proud of my progress and excited to keep learning," shared Peter.

"I am dreaming of becoming a teacher because I love learning and want to help other kids like me."
