Clean Water Provides Ms. Musyimi Peace of Mind!

Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for the 523 students and staff of Kaliwa Secondary School. Since then, they have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!

"It is much more convenient now to access water, and the water provided by the project is clean, safe, and of good quality. There are no concerns about contamination or health risks, which provides peace of mind for students and staff," said teacher Musila Musyimi.

Before the Rain Tank Installation

Like many teachers in Kenya, Mr. Musyimi, 26, finds it difficult to watch his students suffer without sufficient water.

Limited water accessibility meant students wasted time collecting water to meet their needs instead of learning. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, making it more difficult for them to focus. For Mr. Musyimi, in particular, it lessened his opportunity to provide his students with a great education and trust the water quality of what he consumed.

"There was a shortage of clean and safe drinking water in our school, particularly during dry seasons or periods of drought. This scarcity affected students' daily lives because we relied on the few rainwater tanks in our school, which could not sustain us because we are a boarding school and we have a lot of learners. We could also pay a lot of money to the municipal water supply, which strained the school's finances," said Mr. Musyimi.

Since the Rain Tank Installation

Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this school community. By supporting the rain tank installation, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.

Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"

"Since this clean water is easily accessible, there is less time spent fetching water. This has freed up time for studying and other productive endeavors. The student's hygiene has also improved because they have enough water to wash their uniforms and conduct personal hygiene. The students are learning in a comfortable space because they are cleaning their classrooms and latrines more often," said Mr. Musyimi.

The Future is Looking Bright!

You made a difference a year ago. This is just the first chapter of this school's story, as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!

At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.

You gave Mr. Musyimi a crucial tool for teaching: access to clean water. Together, we can excitedly expect that with this precious resource, his enthusiasm will help him provide students with a more complete education.

"Improvements in hygiene have contributed to a better working environment, boosting morale among [the] teachers. When students are healthier and feel more comfortable at school, we spend less time managing absenteeism and catching up [with] absent students," Mr. Musyimi said.

"Living with clean water offers various significant benefits that contribute to overall well-being and quality of life, such as improved health because our students are drinking clean water every day. Clean water facilitates better hygiene practices, including regular handwashing, bathing, and cleaning of clothes and utensils. This helps prevent the spread of infections and improves personal cleanliness."
