Peter's Dairy Farm Plans

Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for Peter. Since then, he and the Mwiyala Community of 238 residents have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!

"Living with clean water brings joy and happiness within the family!" said Peter Rabut.

Before the Spring Protection

Like many community members in Western Kenya, 56-year-old farmer Peter Rabut is responsible for collecting water to meet his daily water needs. Before last year’s water intervention, this task stole his time and negatively affected him.

The previous water source.

Drinking the water from the previous water source caused severe consequences. Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Peter, it reduced his ability to collect water efficiently, limiting his progress in his daily life.

"The source had poor access, making it difficult to fetch water, [and there were] floating materials on the water surface, which contributed to water contamination, and also one had to have a collecting jug since it had no pipe for fetching," recalled Peter.

Since the Spring Protection

Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this community and Peter’s future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.

Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"

"Collecting water now is faster and easier since we have no overcrowding and long queues of people at the water point," said Peter.

But clean water has also benefited Peter emotionally as well.

"I am proud of achieving high standards of hygiene. Most people from other communities were impressed with what was going on in our community, as [the] majority of people have improved in matters concerning personal hygiene. This has made me be proud of myself and [the] community that [I] am staying [in]," Peter noted

The Future is Looking Bright!

A year ago, you made a difference for Peter and his community. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!

At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect system hardware, monitor water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water-quality samples to identify risks. We work with our on-the-ground team to resolve them.

You gave Peter a crucial tool for achieving his dreams: access to clean water. Together, we can be confident that, with this precious resource, his enthusiasm and courage will help him fulfill his dreams.

"Since last year, I have managed to put up a new building, which I have yet to finish," celebrated Peter.

"The new water source has also increased animal production and [produced] more milk from [my] cows," shared Peter. "I am dreaming of becoming a great producer of milk within our region. Clean water will make it possible since animals will drink clean water free from diseases, which can increase milk production."
