Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for Alice. Since then, she and the Shieywe Community of 210 residents have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!
"I am most proud that my children have not missed school because of waterborne illnesses this past year. Clean water has kept my family healthy, allowed me to work more on my farm, and helped me provide for my household without the constant worry of sickness. That peace and progress make me very proud."
Like many women in Kenya, 35-year-old Alice Isaiah is responsible for collecting water to meet daily water needs. Before last year’s water intervention, this task consumed her time and had a negative impact on her.

The spring before protection.
Drinking the water caused severe consequences. Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Alice, it lessened her opportunity to stay healthy and efficiently collect water.
"Last year, before this project, my biggest problem was that our only source of water was the unprotected spring. The water was dirty and exposed to contamination, so we often got sick with diseases like typhoid and diarrhea. Collecting the water was also slow and tiring because we had to wait for it to settle before fetching. Sometimes we would spend a long time at the spring, which meant we had less time for work, farming, or other important activities," shared Alice.
"Before this project was completed, getting water was a difficult and unpleasant task. The spring was open and shallow, with dirty, algae-filled water. We had to bend or kneel on slippery rocks to fetch it, and sometimes wait for the water to clear before filling our containers. It was tiring, time-consuming, and risky for our health," she said.
Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this community and Alice’s future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.

Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"
"I like that fetching water here is now easy, clean, and fast. Since this project was implemented, my health has greatly improved. I no longer suffer from frequent diarrhea or typhoid, and I feel stronger and more energetic. Because I’m not falling sick as often, I have more time and strength to work on my farm, take care of my family, and even participate in community activities that I used to miss," shared Alice.
"The best thing about living with clean water is the peace of mind it brings. I know my family is drinking safe water, so we are healthier and spend less money on hospital visits. It saves us time, which we can use for important work. Clean water has truly made life easier and happier," Alice continued.
A year ago, you made a difference for Alice and the rest of her community. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!
At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.
You gave Alice a crucial tool for achieving her dreams: access to clean water. Together, we can excitedly expect that with this precious resource, her enthusiasm and courage will help Alice fulfill her dreams.
"In the past year, having reliable water has allowed me to accomplish a lot. I have been able to plant and tend to my garden regularly because I can easily fetch water for my vegetables. My family has stayed healthier, so we’ve saved money that used to go to hospital bills and instead used it for school fees and small household improvements. I’ve had more time to tend to my animals, something I couldn’t manage before when fetching water took most of my day," said Alice.
"My dream is to expand my farming so I can grow enough to sell and support my children’s education. I also want to improve my home and start a small business. Access to water will make these dreams easier because I can stay healthy, save time, and use the water for farming and other activities that bring in income," Alice concluded.
