Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for Emmaculate. Since then, she and the Shikose Community of 140 residents have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!
"Drinking safe, clean water has impacted my health positively. Since this project was handed over to us, I have never been affected by water-related illnesses, which have brought changes to my health."
Like many girls in Kenya, 13-year-old Emmaculate is responsible for collecting water to meet daily water needs. Before last year’s water intervention, this task stole her time and negatively affected her.

The spring before protection.
Drinking the water caused severe consequences. Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Emmaculate, in particular, it lessened her chances of staying healthy and regularly attending school.
"Fetching water was so hard; we had to draw water using a jug, which takes a long time to fill a ten-liter jerrican. I had to wait in a queue for a long time to fetch water, and I ended up missing school. More so, I was really affected by water-related illnesses, which really impacted my health negatively, together with my family, that drained us financially and led to unplanned debt," shared Emmaculate.
Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this community and Emmaculate’s future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.

Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"
"Clean water is a basic need [for] all human beings. Living with clean water is one of the fundamental rights that one should have. I personally count myself very lucky to have access to safe, clean water, which does not bring any worries of contracting water-related illnesses," said Emmaculate.
"Personally, I really enjoy being sent by my mother to [go] and fetch water now. I help my mother to do house chores, more so doing cleaning around the compound and ensuring that my younger brother is well taken care of," she continued.
A year ago, you made a difference for Emmaculate and the rest of her community. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!
At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.
You gave Emmaculate a crucial tool for achieving her dreams: access to clean water. Together, we can excitedly expect that with this precious resource, her enthusiasm and courage will help Emmaculate fulfill her dreams.
"My academics have greatly improved because I no longer miss attending school. This is because there is no more sickness because of [the] consumption [of] unsafe water. My ambition in [the] future is to be a teacher, and living with safe, clean water will unlock my potential, which I believe because for the past year I have seen [a] great improvement in my academics," Emmaculate concluded.

Give the gift of clean water this holiday season. Each day, a new community awaits!
