Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for Sinnah. Since then, she and the Massaneh Community of 200 residents have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!
"I absolutely like everything about this new water well. It is placed right in front of my house, and I just have to take a few steps to pump water in no time and with no hesitation. The water is also extremely well-protected from contamination, and this makes me feel totally at ease. I especially like the chlorination, gate installation, and tippy tap for washing hands at the water point. These are significant for my health. My family and I have never experienced any cases of diarrhea since the well was done."
Like many in Kenya, 21-year-old Sinnah is responsible for collecting water to meet her daily water needs. Before last year’s water intervention, this task stole her time and negatively affected her.

The previous water source.
Drinking the water caused severe consequences. Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Sinnah, in particular, every day was an exhausting affair that left her discouraged.
"It was quite challenging to fetch water before the new water well was completed. The only well we had at the time was not sustainable, and the water it provided was not sufficient to meet the needs of the entire community. The water level of the well dropped every dry season," Sinnah recalled.
"Therefore, I used to fetch water from the swamp. There were several challenges in accessing water from the swamp. The distance was too long, the road was risky, and the need was high. The swamp was far from my house, and I spent a lot of time just fetching water. The bush track was risky and exposed me to snake bites. The swamp water was also not covered and at risk of contamination, as the water source was open and had a tendency to get filthy. Due to the water shortage, I was unable to perform all my day-to-day activities in an effective manner. Providing water to my family and performing household work was a huge task. I was completely exhausted at the end of each day," Sinnah said.
Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this community and Sinnah’s future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.

Sinnah at the well.
Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"
Sinnah could heartily agree with that statement!
"I am proud of the good health I now enjoy. I used to suffer from diarrhea due to the water crisis in our village. Today, with access to clean water, I am not only staying healthy but can also manage multiple tasks each day because I have more time and energy to work. My business is making more income than [in] previous times. I am getting income from my backyard garden. This waterpoint is helping me with more time to work," she effused.
A year ago, you made a difference for Sinnah and the rest of her community. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!
At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.
You gave Sinnah a crucial tool for achieving her dreams: access to clean water. Together, we can excitedly expect that with this precious resource, her enthusiasm and courage will help Sinnah fulfill her dreams.
Sinnah remarked, "My aspiration is to open a larger business by opening a shop to sell essential commodities that are in high demand in and around this village. I am working hard towards it, and in my view, pure water will be a significant consideration for its setup. For the meantime, I'm utilizing water to sustain my present livelihood, wherein I earn and save. My strategy is to begin with a small outlet and expand it slowly into a large enterprise. I am hopeful and committed to achieving it."
