The Weight is Lifted Off Kevin's Shoulders!

Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for Kevin. Since then, he and the Kalimbui Community of 520 residents have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!

"Fetching water here feels easy and peaceful. I don’t have to walk far, and there’s no fighting or overcrowding like at the old kiosk. The water is fresh and clean, and I know it’s safe for drinking, cooking, and farming. I actually feel happy when I come to fetch water now because I can see how it’s improving my life and my community."

Before the Well Installation

Like many in Kenya, 28-year-old Kevin Musee is responsible for collecting water to meet his daily water needs. Before last year’s water intervention, this task stole his time and negatively affected him.

Drinking the water caused severe consequences. Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Kevin, in particular, it lessened his opportunity to engage in his daily life.

"It was draining—physically, emotionally, and financially. The walk to the borehole took so much energy, and then waiting in the long lines just made it worse. When I finally got water, it wasn’t even enough for all our needs. The saltiness ruined our cooking and made our crops fail if we tried to use it for farming. Fetching water was one of the hardest parts of my life back then," he shared.

Since the Well Installation

Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this community and Kevin’s future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.

Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"

"The best thing is the freedom it gives me. I don’t worry about getting sick from dirty water or running out of water for my vegetables," said Kevin.

"Clean water has made everything easier—our food tastes better, my health has improved, and I have more time to focus on things that matter, like my farm. It’s like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders," Kevin shared.

"I’ve accomplished so much! I planted vegetables near the water point, and they’re doing so well. I grow kale, spinach, and tomatoes, and I earn about 250 Ksh (Kenyan Shillings) daily from selling them. This money has helped me support my family and even save a little for the future. The water has been a blessing—it’s made my small farm possible, and it feels amazing to see the results of my hard work," he expressed.

The Future is Looking Bright!

A year ago, you made a difference for Kevin and the rest of his community. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!

At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.

You gave Kevin a crucial tool for achieving his dreams: access to clean water. Together, we can excitedly expect that with this precious resource, his enthusiasm and courage will help fulfill dreams.

"My dream is to expand my vegetable farm and grow even more crops to sell. I want to build a bigger business, maybe even supply vegetables to markets in nearby towns. I also dream of saving enough to buy livestock, like goats or cows, so I can diversify my income. Access to water is the key to all of this. With reliable water, I know I can achieve these goals, support my family, and help my community grow, too," Kevin concluded.
