Water makes chores easier for Aminata!

Fifty-nine-year-old Aminata Sesay recalled what life was like in the Mountain Community before her community's well was implemented last year.

"Initially, it was not easy for me to fetch water for use at home since we [did] not have a water well. We depended on the swamp water source, which is prone to contamination. Even to fetch drinking water was a problem. There were times [when] the swamp water source [was] reduced in quantity; therefore, my children would not be able to fetch sufficient water. This was a problem mostly when I needed water to cook. As a result, life in the past when there was no access to safe drinking water was a challenge," she shared.

Collecting water is now easier and faster for her and the other community members in Mountain.

"Presently, everything has changed for good. The water in the well is good to drink compared to the past because we were not having such [a] facility. Now, there is no need for me to send my children to the swamp to fetch water. This has helped save time to do other things that are important at home," continued Aminata.

Having ready access to water from the well has made a difference for Aminata, allowing her to handle chores like cooking for her family quickly and efficiently.

"My domestic work is now done easily due to the availability of water. The area of cooking is one of the greatest achievements for me. I can prepare food on time for the family. This was not the case before due to [the] water situation. But now, I can cook at my convenience. Also, I can now practice good hand washing due to the availability of water," Aminata said.
