Justus Adaku, 23, recalled what life was like in the Kyamaiso Community before his community’s well was installed last year.
“I used to fetch water from the dam, but [the] water was not clean; it would always make me get stomachaches whenever I would drink it, hence spending money on buying medication. Sometimes, I would move to the borehole in the next village to get safe drinking water. It was very far, about 2 km (1.25 miles); hence, it took a lot of time and money to buy fuel for the bike to carry water,” shared Justus.
Collecting water is now less burdensome for Justus and the other community members in Kyamaiso.
“My life has improved because I no longer get sick because of using dirty water from the dam," said Justus.
Having ready access to water from the well has made a difference, allowing Justus to not only feel better but also use his time and energy to improve his life.
"I no longer spend a lot of time moving to fetch water; hence, this gives me enough opportunity to do my garden work,” said Justus.
