Help Fund a Water Project

Together, we can unlock potential in a developing community by providing clean, safe water.
Fundraiser
Decatur, IL Public Schools District 61 and Millikin University have teamed up again to hold a gifted camp for current and future middle school students during the summer of 2013. Over the 6 week long duration of SMASH camp, campers will work side-by-side with local companies and organizations to make new products, create value-added services, generate awareness around a critical topic, and produce an artistic piece for new audiences all with entrepreneurial framework framework. Campers pick one career sector to concentrate on during camp. This year these sectors include Food Science, Energy, Arts, and iMedia. The first week of camp consists of orientation and team-building, technology training, etc. Students will then stay with their sector group the duration of the camp. Each group will create meaningful, relevant solutions that have been brought forward by community partners. This summer, the energy sector will be learning all about water and its importance in our daily lives. We'll be learning about how water sources are threatened by problems like pollution, consumption, and forces of nature. We will brainstorm possible solutions to those problems.=. We'll be visiting Caterpillar, Richland, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Rock Springs, WANDTV, and St. Louis in our journey this summer. After learning about how much water we consume in our community on a daily basis, SMASH campers in the Energy Sector will take action in downtown Decatur, selling Super Bubbles for $2.00 in order to raise money for The Water Project and bring awareness to our local community about water consumption and pollution issues we've learned about this summer. Join us on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 300 N. Water Plaza in downtown Decatur to learn more about what we've learned and how you can help. Why It Matters

Access to clean, safe water unlocks potential

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?

Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!

Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.

About The Water Project

The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.

Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.

Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
