Recently in our middle school classes we had the opportunity to watch 'The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind", a true story about a young boy who was able to use his education to create a windmill, using renewable energy to power a water source, allowing crops to grow, saving his village from starvation.
There are many valuable lessons for our ICA students:
(1) The precious gift of education. Our children are privileged in this country to have access to education, an opportunity that many kids their age all around the world only dream about. Education opens doors to change the lives of children.
(2) The precious gift of water. People around the world are dying daily from lack of a clean water source. Kids walk for miles a day to secure water for their families to survive. This necessity often makes them unable to attend school as the time must be spent in search of water.
(3) The precious gift of hope. We can be part of the change. My hope is to empower our students to see the difference we can make when we come together as a community to help others in need. As a middle school, my hope is that we can raise money to help secure a well for a community in Africa so that our students can see how their efforts can change lives!
We hope you'll consider joining us to fund a water project. With your gifts and your help rallying support, we can provide clean, safe and reliable water to a community in Africa.
We are selling T-shirts designed by one of our own students through custom ink online, all profits going to The Water Project. We will also be hosting the a pledge fundraiser called the Walk For Water, an opportunity for our students to experience what the walk for water is like. Look for information on these things coming home soon! Feel free to share with your friends and family to help our kids meet their fundraising goal!
