I chose to take action when I was working on a job in Seattle. I was at the time a third year plumber apprentice and was replacing the toilets, sink faucets, and shower valves on a 11 story low incoming housing building owned by SHA (Seattle Housing Authority). Roughly 240 toilets that I was pulling out werepoorly maintain. We were disposing them in to the job site's dumpster. My foreman was the first person to meet Saibou. He asked if he could take the toilets and ship them to Africa. Aaron knowing how well the toilets had been kept said " I don't think you want those nasty ol' things," Saibou smiled and said " when you have nothing it's all good!". Plumbing is an important part of our health. Having a plumbing code saves lives and makes high populated area's habitable. That really is something... Can you go without using any plumbing for a week? A year, two years? I don't know where Saibou is now, maybe he is setting the toilets finally, after storing the toilets in a shipping container, paying a hefty monthly fee, waiting for the three months before he could ship them over sea's. Discovering wether or not the American made toilet would match up with the non-American pipes. For me what it came down to was when I looked him in the eye and what I saw was that he didn't want to be asking for these Hand-me-down, once pearly white, now stained brown yellow toilets. Yet, he understood he was making an impact in Africa which is far greater than any reason to keep him from doing so. I invite you to make a difference in someone's life in Africa, right now, by donating. I promise it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Why It Matters

Access to clean, safe water unlocks potential

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?

Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!

Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.

About The Water Project

The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.

Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.

Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
