On a hot summer day, or a dry winter night, what do you do to quench your thirst? Reach for a chilled bottle of Nestle Ice Mountain? Don't do it! You are paying 2,000 times too much, wouldn't you rather spend that money on a new pair of shoes, on your bills or your future.

Our class recently watched the documentary, Tapped, and we became very concerned about the future of water in the world. We want to share some facts that we learned and our mission.

Since so many are willing to pay for water instead of sustaining the water we have, bottle companies are a dominating force in the economy. The effects of these companies are hazardous to the environment and our health. It is a mistake to ignore that the production of plastic bottles uses 3 times more water to make than to fill, or that the bottles themselves are made of hazardous chemicals that may cause health problems.

It gets worse 75% of the surface of the Earth is covered by water but only 1% of that is fresh and drinkable. By 2030, 2/3 of the planet will lack access to clean drinking water.

Our class mission is to educate everyone about the truth of water bottles and the desperate need for clean water. At our school we planned a penny drive to raise money for people who do not have access to clean water like we do at our school.

We hope you will rethink grabbing a plastic water bottle next time you are thirsty.

Thank you for your time,

Ms. Ayers 7th grade class.

Why It Matters

Access to clean, safe water unlocks potential

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?

Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!

Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.

About The Water Project

The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.

Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.

Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
