Want a cold drink?

If you flew over my childhood home in a
fertile Nebraska river valley, you’d see hundreds of round, green circles, like
a massive polka dot quilt. The farmers’ wells and sprinkler pivots pull fresh,
cold, clean water from the Ogallala Aquifer to give their crops; our food;
their daily dose. Each center pivot sprinkler is on wheels and moves around the
field like a hand on a clock creating perfect circles.

In my opinion, this isn’t just water;
it’s the best tasting, cleanest, clearest, most beautiful water in the world. I
grew up drinking it liberally, fresh from the kitchen sink or garden hose.
Little did I know my water was a luxury.

As I came nearer to my 50th
birthday I contemplated my space on the planet, the way I plan to live the rest
of my life, and the value of all that I have. Water always came to the surface.
Such a primal need – our bodies, 80 percent water – can’t live long without it.

Like a fantastic view of Lake Superior,
or a piece of dark chocolate, I’ve just got to share it! Everyone deserves a
clean drink of water, and crops doused in the fresh, simple stuff as well. It’s so simple to build one well to
serve an entire village. I hope you join me.
