It all started with a lesson on water inequality around the world and with the challenges that some children in parts of Africa face with getting water each day. Many students asked what we could do to help people and change lives. We are starting with the fundraiser. It is student inspired and students are playing a major role in getting the message out!-Ms. Cadel, 6th Grade Sage Social Studies Teacher

Hi, My name is Taylor and I’m one of the many students on the sixth-grade sage team at Whitcomb middle school. I’m here to tell you about a fundraiser that my team decided to do, let me tell you how it all started. So It all started when we were learning about a drought in South Africa. We all felt bad that the people were going through something like that, it made us feel even worse when our teacher informed us that there were people who had to live like that every day even without a drought. These people are the people of Kenya, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, and Burkina Faso. All of these places don’t have any plumbing at all. Women and Young girls have to go through a 40-mile dangerous walk in high heat. They risk being attacked by animals and dehydration. They do this walk every day to find a water source and when they do find that water it's murky and filled with disease and bad chemicals. They fill their jerry cans with water and carry that jug that weighs 40 pounds all the way back to their village.

Getting water to people is important because, you never know who could be the next best engineer or the best doctor, no ones ever sure. There could be someone out in this world right now that is in need of clean fresh water, and in the future could maybe become the person who finds a cure for cancer, you never know. But if we get water to the people who need it we could find and unlock hidden potential, and find a much easier way to live in the future, who knows maybe we could even have flying cars. - Daniel

I think its important to get clean water to people because a lot of people don't have enough or don't have water at all. The small amount of people who do have water had to fight for it and sometimes sadly die. The water is really dirty and causes young kids to feel sick. -Maria-Victorya

muitas pessoas estão passando por um momento difícil agora por causa da água, quase 1 milhão de pessoas não têm água. Portanto, nosso projeto de água estará ajudando cerca de 4 estados da África em nosso projeto de água. Marcela

I want to do this fundraiser because its helping people and me and you are saving lives, Also your saving a lot of time for woman and girls from walking miles and miles & carry back a 40 pound jug of water. Getting clean water to people in important to people because its good for your health and keeps you active. -Juliette

I feel like it's everyone's responsibility to help others in situations like that. Just like we help our family members in very difficult times, we are helping a whole community to change their lives forever and start off again in better conditions. Getting clean water to people is important because our whole lives depend on it, especially in Africa. People have to plant and grow crops to have food, they need to stay healthy and show up at school as much as possible to get a proper education, but in Africa, that doesn't happen very often. So I want to help as much as I can to keep people living in better conditions. From Luisa.

Ana

I want to do the fundraiser because I feel as if it is my duty as a person in this world, is to help those in need even at such a young age. Getting clean water to people is important because, of all the dirty water they have had before they need clean water to stop getting sick and dying of diseases. ~Stephanie

-Danna

How this works

Dirty water impacts health, education, women, and income. Providing a reliable and safe water source allows communities to thrive.

The Water Project provides access to safe and reliable water across sub-Saharan Africa. Together, our support can end the water crisis and restore hope, one community at a time.

The coolest part? We'll all get to see our impact! Every gift is directly linked to a specific water project and community. We'll receive updates including photos and stories, maps and more!

Lives change when communities gain access to clean water. Let's experience it together. Make a donation to my fundraising campaign today!
