SISTAR and STAR1 Third Anniversary - Help the Children of Africa
Help Fund a Water Project
In celebration of third anniversary of Korean Girl-Group SISTAR, STAR1, the Official Fanclub of SISTAR, SISTERS, the Official Supporters of SISTAR, along with International SISTAR fan club Mighty SISTAR, and STAR1 USA are fundraising to raise money to supply clean water to children of Africa. SISTAR members HyoLyn (22•Kim Hyo-jeong) and SoYou (21•Kang Ji-hyeon) recently returned from an 8 day goodwill mission with Community service organization, Miral Welfare Foundation, to poor village near Monrovia located in Western African Nation of Liberia. According to Miral Welfare Foundation, HyoLyn and SoYou joined in the villiage's main livelyhood of breaking rocks into gravel and selling them. Two shared in the villiage folks' burden by carrying 45~90 pounds of rocks on their heads. Their entire day's pay for hard labor only came to $0.50~$1.00. SoYou expressed shock at this news and added with much anguish "This place is dangerous for children growing up. The entire village is filled with acrid smell of burning tires making it difficult to breathe. Children survive entire day of back breaking labor with just an analgesic. Furthermore, they only get one meal a day."
HyoLyn who always had interest in volunteering added "I want to help the children of Liberia and tell people of Korea what is going on here, so that we can find ways to help these people." In accordance with HyoLyn and SoYou's hopes, we would like to raise $3,000 to help provide clean water to children of Africa through partnerships with organizations like The Water Project. Why It Matters
Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
