Dear Taylor Families,
As you might know, in our school we use the teaching method of Project Based Learning, or PBL, to help students learn better. A project motivates students to gain knowledge, and they remember it longer. Projects give students the chance to apply the skills they learn in school to personally relevant and real-world situations. Students also learn skills in PBL, such as how to think critically, solve problems, work in teams, and make presentations. These skills will help students succeed in the future, both in school and in today’s work world.
Our fourth graders are currently working diligently to complete their first PBL, Problem Based Learning, cycle. This year, our project is called Got Water?. Students are learning all about a variety of issues involving WATER, including: water scarcity, the effects of dirty and unsafe water (water pollution), and the lack of proper sanitation and hygiene in a community (while also exploring the current water crisis that has been experienced around the world).
With this PBL work, students have decided to organize a Coin Drive and a Silent Auction. These fundraisers will be used to help get clean water to people in need. All the money raised with these fundraisers will be donated to The Water Project (thewaterproject.org). The Water Project helps bring clean water to people in Africa. The Water Project will allow us to adopt a village in need of clean water and follow along on their journey of getting their own well. The fundraiser started this Monday (February 1) and it will end next Friday, the 12.
With your gifts and your help rallying support, we can provide clean, safe and reliable water to a community in Africa. Today, too many children suffer needlessly - walking miles for dirty water that makes them sick. You and I can change that.
Please consider making a donation and then help us spread the word.
Together we can make a difference.
Sincerely,
The 4th Grade CREW
