Hello. My name is Toyo Hiro Yokoyama. I started watching people all over taking part in the ALS Ice Water Challenge and it got me to thinking how much water was being wasted in the midst of the state of California being in a drought. It got me to thinking how many people around the globe are not as lucky as those even in California amidst a drought.
I wanted to utilize the monumental popularity of the ALS Ice Bucket challenge and try to capitalize on it's popularity to try to invoke real change. I couldn't help to think of all of the people around the globe that didn't have the luxury of dumping buckets of perfectly good drinking water over their heads. Most do not even have the luxury of just one glass of ice water. I started to do a little bit of research to find out that every day over 4,000 children under the age of 5 years old dies from diarrhea caused by unclean water. I wanted to take this moment in history and challenge my friends, family, and loved ones into participating and trying to be part of something that could actually change the world! (or at least provide clean drinking water for a community) If we are able to generate just $10,000, that would be enough to install a clean water filtration system for a community that does not currently have it. I believe that we have the capability to rise to the challenge and perhaps even surpass my goal of $10,000.Date | Donor | Amount | Message |

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.
Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.
Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
