We all dream big, especially when we are young because nothing seems impossible. Ahmed was an avid cricket fan and would get everyone and anyone around him involved for a game of cricket. This is when he was 12 years old, in sweltering summer heat of Pakistan. Ahmed dreamt of cricket, its fame and glory.
Life rarely happens as planned, and such was Ahmed's destiny. He was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy at the tender age of 13. Muscular dystrophy (MD) is a group of muscle diseases that results in increasing weakening and breakdown of skeletal muscles over time. Many people will eventually become unable to walk. Some types are also associated with problems in other organs which leads to early demise. There is no cure for this disease. Ahmed, knew this at the age of 15, and was left distraught. It wasn't long before Ahmed was using braces, walls and people for assistance. He fought long and hard against his condition but this disease slowly took over him.
Ahmed spent half his life in and out of hospitals. Despite physical, mental and emotional trauma Ahmed never let anger and bitterness get to him. He had the strongest faith, the biggest smile and a heart he wore on his sleeves for others. Ahmed was a kind man. He never forgot anyone, he made others feel like they were the most important people in the world.
He put everyone around him on a journey of self-reflection. People had so much more and at the same time felt empty. He made people seek forgiveness for their ungratefulness over little things in life. His kindness and strength against his life long battle helped others become better people.
“When a person dies, his deeds come to an end, except for three: ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), knowledge that is benefited from, and a righteous child who prays for him.”
— The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
Help us honor Ahmed's legacy by building a water well as an ongoing charity in his name. While his life came to an end far sooner then most, it was a life lived with kindness, strength and faith. Even though he has left us, his memory pushes us till this day to help make this world a little less rough, and a little more positive.
His family and friends believe the best tribute to his life is to help others. Please give in Ahmed's name so we can bring clean water to those who need it most.
May Allah (swt) have mercy on Ahmed and grant him a place in Jannat ul Firdous. Ameen.
