I am a sophomore at Cabot High School, and for my Pre-AP English class, each student is required to do a project to help or spread awareness of their topic. As for my topic, it is about the water scarcity in African countries.

Here are some quick facts about the water scarcity in Africa

majority of water sources are either polluted or contaminated

Every minute a newborn dies from an infection caused by lack of safe water and an unclean environment.

85% of all diseases in African children under 5 are caused by water-borne illnesses

30,000 children die each day from contaminated water

319 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa are without access to improved reliable drinking water sources

443 million school days are lost each year due to water-related diseases

The physical and time burden of water hauling was found to fall primarily on women and girls who make up 72% of those tasked with fetching water.
