Makivenzi Water Project Update - September 2007

The Makivenzi Water Project has expanded and is now in the final stages of construction thanks to the unprecedented response from TheWaterProject.org supporters.

Together we raised over $14,000 to fund this large project. It now has three components which will bring a more comprehensive solution to this community of over 2,000.

This report recently came in from the field...

" The school is experiencing scarcity of water especially this time of the season when the dry season is at the peak. Each student uses 5 litres of water for two days both for drinking, washing clothes and bathing which fall far below the recommended daily rations. The tank and well construction have been accelerated to take advantage of the short rains which are about to start.

The water tank measuring 20 feet in diameter is already at 8ft, and requires concrete roofing. Plastering is about to commence and then piping and putting of gutters will fitted last.

The [hand dug!] shallow water well is at 56 feet deep and they intend to add up some 10ft so that the water volume can be more. The water for the construction so far has been the biggest challenge. The local materials have been collected enough for the construction of the water tank and the well.

The school girls are still experiencing water rationing and they looking forward to the completion of the tank and the well. "
