Safe Water in Urban Settlements

Friday, June 13th, 2014

Today, Crissie (Water Programs Director) spent time visiting our partners, Pamoja Trust, and a section of the Mathare Slum known as Mashimoni.  We’re currently funding a legal piped water network to at least 50 plots via a micro-loan program.

CHWs, Leaders and youth sat down to discuss the pressing issue of lack of water

Crissie’s day began with the team discussing the pressing issue of lack of water and sanitation in the area and how a piped water supply will effect rent prices in the slums.

We’re excited to be a part of this important pilot program to explore solutions within these urban settlements.  While it is a far different environment than our usual work in the rural countryside, understanding the impact we can have in this context is vital to our expanding work within Kenya.

Pilot programs like this one, exploring new opportunities for us to provide safe water, are made possible by our Sustaining Members and specially designated giving.
