A Year Later: "Fetching water right now is very easy!"

Nickel P., 12, recalled what life was like in the Shitirira Community before his community's spring was protected last year.

"As a child, fetching water before an adult was unacceptable, so I had to wait longer before starting to scoop, thus resulting [in] time wastage and long queues," he said.

Collecting water is much simpler for Nickel and the other community members in the Shitirira Community now.

"Fetching water right now is very easy. No long queues [are] witnessed anymore. I can fetch water anytime. Also, I can wash my school uniforms every day," he continued.

Having ready access to water from the spring has made a difference for Nickel, allowing him to regain time for other important things. Nickel has also taken advantage of his access to water to benefit his family and others living near him.

"I have started earning income through selling water to people who live in nearby rental houses," he concluded.
