Memantu, 16, recalled what life was like in Lower Kamayea Community before her community’s well was installed last year.
"Before, it was a suffering [to go] for water, even though the water was not clean and safe to [be] used. We must get water from the stream to drink, cook, and bathe. We were actually suffering from stomach pain and frequent stooling from the stream water that we were drinking before," Memantu shared.
But life is much better for Memantu and the other community members in Lower Kamayea Community now.
"The impact is that the suffering [to go] for water is over, and we no long[er] fetch water from the stream to drink or cook," she continued.
Farmer Saidu Kanu, 38, agreed. He said, "The impact of this water point has reduced the constraints for clean and safe water. The water is clean and safe to drink; even to [be] used for cooking and bathing is fine. There were no water constraints during Ramadan; we have enough to [be] used for ablution and bathing on time for prayers. My wife can now prepare food on time to eat."
Having ready access to water from the well has made a difference for Memunatu and her community, allowing them to stay healthy and more easily fulfill their religious practices.
"Many thanks to the providers for this clean and safe water. I'm not experiencing stomach pain like before if [I'm] drinking the stream water. I can prepare food on time," Memantu concluded.
Thank you for helping Memantu access clean water and no longer experience illness due to contaminated water.
Right now, there are others just like her in neighboring communities that desperately need safe water access. Your support will immediately go to work to provide a clean water project - and we can’t wait to introduce you to the next person you’ll help.
