A Year Later: Clean Water Improves Self-Esteem!

Mildred I., 17, recalled what life was like in Mang'uliro Community before her community's spring was protected last year.

"The spring was like a pond; we used tins to draw water. Stormwater used to make the water dirty. When it rained, we had to wait for some time so that we could get water. The stormwater was controlled during construction, and it doesn't mix with water from the spring," Mildred shared.

Life is much improved for Mildred and the other community members in Mang'uliro Community now.

"The water is now clean compared to when it used to be cloudy during the rainy season. I [only] use [a] little time to fetch water," she continued.

Having ready access to water from the protected spring has made a difference for Mildred, allowing her to stop wasting time drawing unsafe water and prioritize her time for life-enhancing activities.

"I have personally improved [with the] quality of water we take since we use chlorine to treat it. [I] am able to wash my clothes and utensils on time and using clean water," concluded Mildred.
