A Year Later: "It is now easy for us to get water."

Lanisha L., 11, recalled what life was like in the Mukava Community before her community's spring was protected last year.

"The source was like a pond. We fetched water [from] another unprotected source surrounded by bananas. It was slippery and deep. This water point before construction was inaccessible to us," said Lanisha.

Collecting water is much simpler and faster for Lanisha and the other community members in Mukava Community now.

"Remember, previously, children couldn't access water easily from here. The water is clean and clear. The spring has been protected well to prevent animal contamination or even rainwater. We use this water to clean utensils, wash clothes, and bathing," she continued.

Having ready access to water from the spring has made a difference for Lanisha, allowing her to access clean water whenever she needs it. Removing the water burden from her young shoulders allows her to dream of a bright future.

"It is now easy for us to get water. We drink water from this water point, and it is very clean," she concluded.
