A Year Later: No Longer Suffering from a Long Journey

A year ago, your generous donation helped the Kyamaiso Kyamunyweri Community in Uganda access clean water – creating a life-changing moment for Caroline. Thank you!

A Year Later: No Longer Suffering from a Long Journey

Caroline M, 13, recalled what life was like in the Kyamaiso Kyamunyweri Community before her community's well was protected last year.

"I used to fetch water from the next village called Kidwaro, and the distance was very far, about 2kms (1.2 miles). I would spend a lot of time walking on foot because I feared riding the bicycle. This water point would frequently break down almost every month; sometimes, it would [be] a lot of time without water because of the delays in repairs. I would then fetch water from the dam, and this water wasn't clean because it was shared with animals," shared Caroline.

Collecting water is now much simpler for Caroline and the other community members in Kyamaiso Kyamunyweri Community.

"I no longer suffer [from] moving long distances because this waterpoint is near my home. I am assured of water because this waterpoint doesn't frequently break down, and even when it does, money is always there to attend to any breakdown. My hygiene has improved because I am able to wash my clothes every day and bathe as well; I also go to school when I am clean," Caroline concluded.

Having ready access to water from the well has made a difference for Caroline, allowing her to save time and energy by being close to the well. That time can now be used for prioritizing her education and hygiene practices. Caroline shared her big goals, "[I] plan always to keep good hygiene to be the cleanest girl in my school."

Right now, there are others in neighboring communities that desperately need safe water access. Your support will immediately go to work to provide a clean water project - and we can't wait to introduce you to the next person you'll help.
