A Year Later: Rehabilitated Well Gives Hope!

Jeneba Sboleh, 40, recalled what life was like in the Petifu Junction Community before her community's well was rehabilitated last year.

"Before, to get water was a huge problem for me in my village. The only water well I fetched water from was seasonal and was not safe to drink. So, this caused me to fetch water from a far distance. Walking [a] long distance to access water pained me most. And when walking [the] long distance with a bulkhead (water container) on my head, it's [a] pain, especially [in] my legs. This would stop me [from] getting enough water at home," she shared.

"This waterpoint has impacted my life. Now, I am not constrained to access water anymore. It has helped me not walk long distances. Drinking from this water point prevents me from contracting waterborne diseases like cholera, [and] diarrhea because drinking safe and clean water contributes to getting sound health," continued Jeneba.

Having ready access to water from the well has made a difference for Jeneba, allowing her to easily collect water, no longer sacrificing her health and experiencing pain while fetching water.

"This water point has been renewed; it helped me achieve some things I haven't completed before, like preparing food on time, laundering my clothes, bathing, and processing palm oil. Before, I found it difficult to process palm oil because there was not enough water. Since this water point has been renewed now, with the help of this water well, I will do the processing easily. Plenty thanks to you," concluded Jeneba.
