Before the Well Installation

Like many in Uganda, 15-year-old Gloria is responsible for collecting water to meet daily water needs. Before last year’s water intervention, this task stole her time and negatively affected her.

Drinking the water caused severe consequences. Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Gloria, in particular, it lessened her opportunity to feel safe on a day-to-day basis.

"Collecting water was risky because I had to pass through a bush to reach the water source, which was quite frightening. The long distance was also a major challenge, causing me to spend a lot of time," Gloria shared.

Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"

"The waterpoint is close to my home, so I no longer have to worry about the distance or the unsafe environment when accessing the water source. I no longer worry about contracting waterborne diseases," she added.

"I spend most of my time revising books and completing my domestic chores on time, as less time is spent fetching water. There are no worries because the water source is close to home, making it easily accessible at all times," Gloria shared.

We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.
