My name is Lauren and I am a sophomore at Eleanor Roosevelt High School located in Eastvale, CA. I have partnered with my 12-year old sister, Khloe, to fundraise for Water in South Sudan through RECYCLING! Please join us in recycling for a good cause!
I have been working on a CAN and BOTTLE recycling project as a way to reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses polluting the air. Did you know that for every 10 pounds of aluminum you recycle, you eliminate 37 pounds of carbon emissions from the air! Now that's something to be proud of!
Recycling is easy to do and because I live in a bottle program state, that means we get 5 cents for bottles and cans that are less than 24 ounces, and 10 cents for larger ones. According to CalRecycle, more than $100 million worth of bottles and cans (CRV) end up in a landfill EVERY YEAR because no one takes them to a recycling center! That's where YOU AND I come in!

My little sister, Khloe, is a 7th grader; she is a student at Sky Mountain Charter School in California. She was thinking about her first service-learning project and after reading A Long Walk To Water, a novel by Linda Sue Park, she knew exactly what she wanted to do! She wanted to find a way to reach students in the developing world and help them have access to clean, safe drinking water.
Did you know, that in 2021 nearly a billion people have no access to clean, safe drinking water?!

This impacts children in the developing world in devastating ways—from missing school (collecting water consumes nearly half of every day) to disease and death (over 4,500 children each day).
My sister and I have partnered up! 100% of all the money I collect from recycling will be donated to THE WATER PROJECT! Not only will I help combat climate change, which helps preserve the planet, but it is making a clear, significant good to the people that need one of our most beautiful and important resources - WATER!
