Kalawa Water Project Update - January 2008

Sand dam being built to provide clean water

This report recently came in from the field...

"Construction work [has] consistently been going on now for the past one month with the community members committing themselves to a full days work every week at the weir site.

Cross section of weir in Kalawa, KenyaThe construction whose design involves a concrete block sandwiched by two parallel mortar and stone walls is now approaching a height of 4 ft.

As the rainy season sets in, most of the community members are getting busy with land preparation. This has in a way slowed the progress of the work as the community has only one day per week at the site. This not withstanding, the community is very committed to the completion of the project.
