Upon completion of the project, our partner in the field reports...
When the Living Water Burkina Faso team arrived, 171 families including a several local churches were dependent on an unprotected hand dug well located 4 kilometers outside the community, various forms of surface water all located a kilometer outside the community, tube wells located 3 kilometers outside the community and protected hand dug wells located 6 kilometers outside the community to meet all of their water needs. Because of this and the community’s practice of open defecation, families were suffering from diarrhea and severe dehydration among other preventable water related illnesses. Most residents are Catholic, Protestant or Muslim faith and the local Association Krista Lawyir Church, Catholic Church and Protestant Church will continue to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with community families, using access to safe drinking water as an entry-point to sharing the Good News with the unreached. During the team’s stay, community members assembled a Water Committee, Community Health Club and Self-help group who assisted the team with the water project whenever possible and supplied any materials they had available. This Water Committee is also responsible for maintaining the well after the team leaves the area.
During the hygiene education, and using the Living Water Traditional Method, the team addressed: Germs, Hand Washing-Proper Techniques and Water Saving Methods, Good-Bad Hygiene Behaviors, Proper Care of Pump and Keeping the Water Clean.
The Living Water Burkina Faso team had an opportunity to meet with 47 year old community member, farmer and housewife, Amelie Some, who stated, "I want to say thank you for those who have come into our village today to do this project with our pump. It is God who created water and all people must drink water to survive. Our pump has been broken down since the last dry season. We had to use water from the shallow hand dug wells but we suffered because the water was not clean. Thanks to you today, I think the suffering of water will diminish greatly in this village. Everyone is very happy with the water from this pump that they may drink from it again. It's not thanks to you that we have received this water, it is really thanks to the all-powerful God that we have received this water. We must all acknowledge and praise God with a loud voice and with a very great joy."
